Ice Skating Opens Today at Leominster’s Barrett Park!
UPDATE: Ice skating is officially open at Barrett Pond in Leominster as of today! Leominster Recreation officials announced that the ice has been cleared and is now safe for skating, although it may be a bit bumpy. “Hey, Leominster! Barrett Pond has frozen and it’s safe for skating. We’ll keep checking the ice thickness, but feel free to come and skate!” they shared on their Facebook page.
WHY THIS MATTERS: With winter in full swing, this is a perfect opportunity for families and friends to enjoy some outdoor fun. Ice skating at Barrett Pond is a beloved community tradition, and residents are encouraged to take advantage of the freshly frozen ice while it lasts.
In addition to skating, Leominster Recreation is gearing up for an exciting February vacation week program from February 17 to 20, 2024. Targeted at children aged 6 to 9, the program will feature engaging STEAM activities, creative crafts, and games. Participants will enjoy a kid-friendly movie on Friday and have access to the Barrett Park playground, weather permitting.
After lunch, kids will dive into the Challenge Island program, focusing on “Slimetopia Diners, Drive-Thrus and Dives.” This unique experience will take participants on a culinary adventure across the United States, exploring the gooey delights of various regional cuisines. Teams will include fun themes like In and Out Burger Slime and Tex Mex Slime. Parents are reminded to bring their own snacks, lunches, and water bottles, noting that all programs are peanut and tree nut-free.
The cost for this engaging program is $165 for residents and $185 for non-residents. This program is designed to foster creativity and teamwork in a small group setting, ensuring that every child has the chance to explore and enjoy.
Following the vacation program, Leominster Recreation will host a Winter Scavenger Hunt on February 25, 2024, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. This family-friendly event is aimed at children aged 4 to 7 and costs $5 for residents and $10 for non-residents. Participants will embark on a scenic trail loop around Barrett Pond, searching for hidden items while embracing the beauty of nature. Each family will receive a map to guide them, and those who find all hidden items will earn a small prize.
Leominster Recreation also has additional upcoming activities including a Teen & Adult Health & Safety CPR/AED Class for ages 14+ on February 18, a Family Bingo Night for all ages on February 19, and girls and co-ed basketball clinics on February 28.
NEXT STEPS: Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the ice skating at Barrett Pond today and to register for upcoming programs that promise fun and learning for all ages. For more information, check the Leominster Recreation Facebook page and official website.
