The Berlin International Film Festival has announced that renowned German director Wim Wenders will serve as the president of the jury for its 76th edition, set to take place in February 2026. Wenders, a central figure in the film industry, has a long history with the festival, having participated in various capacities over the decades.

Wenders is celebrated for his influential works, including the acclaimed 1987 film *Wings of Desire*, which reflects his deep connection to Berlin. His contributions to the festival include the opening of the event with his documentary *Pina* in 2011, and screenings of significant works such as *The Million Dollar Hotel* and *Everything Will Be Fine*, showcasing his versatility across genres. In 2015, he received the prestigious Honorary Golden Bear, an accolade that recognizes his extensive impact on cinema.

Current festival director Tricia Tuttle expressed her enthusiasm for Wenders’ role, stating, “His insatiable curiosity and deep mastery of film language are evident in every work.” She emphasized that his films illuminate the search for meaning and connection, qualities that resonate with audiences and filmmakers alike.

Reflecting on this opportunity, Wenders shared his surprise at being nominated as jury president in his hometown. “It never hit me to even remotely think about being jury president in my hometown. Until Tricia Tuttle asked me,” he said. He added that the experience will allow him to engage deeply with the films in competition and collaborate with fellow film enthusiasts.

Wenders’ appointment as jury president represents a significant moment for both the filmmaker and the festival, highlighting the enduring relationship between Wenders and Berlin. As the festival approaches, anticipation builds around how his unique vision will influence the selection and discussion of this year’s films.
