UPDATE: A tragic crash in Weld County claims the life of 20-year-old Kaylee Russell, confirmed to be speeding and texting just before the accident. The Colorado State Patrol has released unsettling details indicating that Russell was using her phone and had marijuana in her system at the time of the fatal incident.

On December 4, 2023, Russell was driving a Volkswagen Tiguan northbound on Larimer County Road 1 when she approached a dangerous left curve. Investigators revealed that she was traveling at an alarming 60 mph, significantly exceeding the 25 mph speed limit for that area, which ultimately led to her losing control of the vehicle.

The crash scene was devastating. Russell veered off the right side of the road, collided with a utility marker, and plunged down an embankment into a canal, landing on its roof and partially submerged in water.
