Embraer Secures New Customers in Uzbekistan and Philippines
Embraer has announced Uzbekistan and the Philippines as new customers for its KC-390 airlifter and A-29 Super Tucano light attack aircraft, respectively. This revelation underscores the growing demand for Embraer’s military aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region. Uzbekistan becomes the first Central Asian nation to join the global operators of the KC-390, while the Philippines expands its fleet of Super Tucanos with a second batch of six aircraft.
Bosco da Costa Jr., President and CEO of Embraer Defense and Security, made the announcement during the Singapore Airshow. He emphasized the company’s readiness to support the evolving needs of air forces in this dynamic region. “This is a clear demonstration that Embraer Defense and Security is ready for the future,” he stated.
Details remain limited regarding the number of KC-390s to be delivered to Uzbekistan. However, Embraer had previously indicated in December 2024 that an undisclosed customer was set to acquire two units. The first KC-390 for Uzbekistan is scheduled for delivery later this year, marking a significant enhancement in its airlift capabilities.
Significance of the Orders
The acquisition of the KC-390 will enable the Uzbek Air Force to conduct transport and humanitarian missions more efficiently. With this move, Uzbekistan joins a select group of nations operating this advanced airlifter, which has garnered 47 orders from nine countries since its introduction in 2014.
Meanwhile, the Philippines’ additional six Super Tucanos will increase its total fleet to 12 aircraft. The acquisition reflects the country’s commitment to enhancing its air defense and light attack capabilities. Embraer had initially announced the order for the Super Tucanos to an undisclosed customer in December 2024.
In a broader context, the KC-390 continues to attract interest from various nations. South Korea is among the future operators, having placed an order for three aircraft in 2023. The first unit for the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) is currently undergoing final assembly in Brazil and will soon enter the flight testing phase, as noted by da Costa Jr.
Embraer’s growing presence in the Asia-Pacific region highlights the increasing demand for advanced military aircraft, driven by evolving geopolitical dynamics and national security needs. The company’s commitment to delivering high-performance solutions positions it well for future opportunities in this competitive market.
