BREAKING: Deni Avdija has officially made history as the first Israeli to earn an NBA All-Star selection! The Portland Trail Blazers forward was named a Western Conference reserve on Sunday night, securing his place in the prestigious All-Star showcase set for February 15, 2024, in Inglewood, California.

This remarkable achievement comes during Avdija’s standout season, where he is averaging a career-high 25.5 points, 6.7 assists, and 7.2 rebounds over 44 games. His exceptional performance has positioned him among an elite trio of players, including Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic, who are also averaging at least 25 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Avdija, affectionately known as “Turbo,” hails from Beit Zera, a kibbutz on the southern shore of the Sea of Galilee. The 25-year-old’s journey to stardom has been marked by hard work and resilience, particularly as he has played a pivotal role in guiding the rebuilding Blazers through a challenging season filled with injuries.

Blazers head coach Tiago Splitter expressed pride in Avdija’s accomplishment, stating,

“Proud of him. I know he cares about this team. When you see a person like that succeeding, it’s truly special.”

Despite battling a sore back that sidelined him for multiple games recently, Avdija has made significant contributions this season, including three triple-doubles and hitting double figures in assists nine times. He has also scored 20 or more points in 35 games. As of now, the Blazers hold a record of 23-26 and are positioned ninth in the Western Conference.

Avdija joins a distinguished group of players for the upcoming All-Star event, which will feature a unique tournament format—U.S. vs. the World. He is set to compete alongside international stars such as Doncic, Jokic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, and Victor Wembanyama.

As Avdija prepares for this historic moment, fans and pundits alike anticipate the impact he will have on the All-Star festivities and the future of the NBA. Stay tuned for more updates as Avdija continues to redefine the boundaries of success for Israeli athletes in professional sports.
