URGENT UPDATE: Albany officials have declared a 48-hour snow emergency set to take effect at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting immediate action from residents and city services alike. With significant snowfall expected, Mayor Dorcey Applyrs emphasized the need for residents to adhere to new parking rules to facilitate efficient snow removal.

As the snowstorm grips Albany, residents were already out early Monday, clearing their driveways and sidewalks. “It’s the lesser of two evils,” said local resident Rich O’Connor, highlighting the dual challenge of street cleaning and parked vehicles.

During the first 24 hours of the snow emergency, all vehicles must be parked on the even-numbered side of the street. On the following day, the directive will shift, requiring vehicles to move to the odd-numbered side. Failure to comply with these rules could result in tickets and towing, putting residents on high alert.

Deputy Commissioner of General Services, Frank Zeoli, clarified Albany’s unique approach to snow emergencies. “A snow emergency in Albany is a post-storm event. During the storm, we focus our energy on keeping the streets open,” he stated. The emphasis shifts to clearing and removing snow once the snow emergency is declared.

Residents are encouraged to utilize designated snow emergency parking lots, including Ridgefield Park, Krank Park, Lincoln Park, and Hackett Park, to avoid potential disruptions.

Moreover, the mayor reminded the public about city policies regarding sidewalk clearing, urging residents to stay informed. For detailed updates and further information, residents can visit the city’s official website.

As snow continues to accumulate, the city’s response is critical for maintaining safety and accessibility. Albany residents must remain vigilant and prepared as the snow emergency unfolds. Stay tuned for more updates as this situation develops.
