Garber Girls Basketball Ends Losing Streak with 67-21 Victory
UPDATE: The Essexville Garber girls basketball team ended a three-game losing streak in a dominant fashion, defeating Bay City All Saints 67-21 on January 16, 2026. This decisive victory not only marks a significant turnaround for Garber but also halts All Saints’ five-game winning streak, creating a buzz in the local sports community.
The win holds deeper significance as Garber (4-6) celebrated the moment with a postgame “6-7” pose, a nod to a trending phrase among teenagers that symbolizes resilience and comeback. “I am really proud of how this group responded after the last few games and how they bounced back with energy, focus, and togetherness,” said first-year coach Megan Cockrell.
Garber’s triumph was fueled by an explosive first quarter, where they surged to a staggering 29-2 lead. Junior guard Shayler McIntyre was unstoppable, sinking seven 3-pointers, including five in the opening minutes, contributing to an impressive 27-point performance. Teammates Allie Gaeth and Alivia MacDonald each added nine points, while Claire Arnold scored seven. The defense was equally formidable, with Alyssa Bowker and Iva Bebow each registering seven steals.
On the other side, All Saints (5-2) struggled to find their rhythm, with Val Costilla leading the scoring with just seven points. “Unfortunately, we didn’t come out aggressive enough in the first quarter,” lamented All Saints coach Mike Debo. “But give Garber credit. When they’re on, they can shoot the ball – and they were on tonight.”
In another significant matchup, the John Glenn Bobcats solidified their status as contenders with a commanding 82-49 victory over Bridgeport. This marks their sixth consecutive win, placing them at the top of the Tri-Valley Conference Red standings.
John Glenn (8-2, 3-1) showcased their offensive prowess, fueled by a sensational performance from Aubrey Moore, who exploded for a career-high 33 points. Teammate Aleeyah Alonzo-Mannie also contributed significantly with 22 points. Coach Adam Moore praised his team’s high-energy defense and outstanding effort. “This was a positive way to end the week,” he noted.
