Chris Vargas Lands 11th Football Scholarship Offer from Michigan
BREAKING: Lawrence native and standout quarterback Chris Vargas has just announced on social media that he has received a scholarship offer from the University of Michigan. This marks his 11th scholarship from a Division I school, a significant milestone for the young athlete.
Vargas, who plays for St. John’s Prep, already boasts offers from major programs including Virginia Tech, Georgia, Texas A&M, Auburn, Illinois, Ohio State, Syracuse, Penn State, UMass, and Rhode Island. The Wolverines are particularly interested, especially since they currently have another Massachusetts native, Peter Bourque, committed to their program.
Vargas is widely recognized as a top recruit, currently ranked as the No. 9 overall recruit in the Class of 2028 and the No. 2 quarterback in his class according to 247Sports. Notably, his recruitment ranking made him the highest-ranked MIAA recruit in Massachusetts history, underscoring his exceptional talent.
As a sophomore, Vargas has already made waves in high school football, securing the starting quarterback position at St. John’s Prep in his freshman year of 2024. He led his team to an impressive overall record of 10-2 and a spot in the Division I state semifinals. Last season, Vargas continued to shine, guiding St. John’s Prep to the state championship game.
His outstanding performance did not go unnoticed, as he was named to the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association Division I All-State Team at the end of the season, a testament to his skill and dedication on the field.
