Charles E. Lowe, 92, Beloved Community Leader, Passes Away
BREAKING: Charles E. Lowe Jr., a prominent figure in Newington and a dedicated community leader, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on January 2, 2026. His departure marks a significant loss for family, friends, and the community he served tirelessly.
Lowe, affectionately known as Charlie, was born to the late Charles Edwin Lowe Sr. and Lois Ruth Hartman Lowe. He grew up in Wethersfield and later made Newington his lifelong home, where he raised his family and built his legacy. A graduate of The Loomis School, Class of 1951, and a proud alumnus of Bryant College and the University of Connecticut, Lowe was a testament to the values of education and hard work.
Throughout his life, Charlie owned and operated Lowe Manufacturing, first in Simsbury and then in Newington, contributing to the local economy for many years. His commitment to community service was unparalleled; he was a founding member of the Newington Rotary Club, joining the organization in 1960. His dedication to fellowship and charitable initiatives left a lasting impact on many lives.
Lowe’s family recalls him as a loving father to his children, Peter Lowe and wife Julie, and Deborah Gilles and husband David. He was also a proud grandfather to Valerie, Benjamin, Samuel, Brian, Christopher, and Adam, with a great-grandson, Adriano, and another on the way. His family, including his sister Susan Lowe Redfield and several nieces and nephews, will cherish his memory forever.
In addition to his business and community contributions, Lowe was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Shriners, further showcasing his commitment to service and philanthropy.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes at Newington Memorial, located at 20 Bonair Avenue, Newington. A memorial service will follow on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Lifeway Church, 2172 Berlin Turnpike, Newington, with a reception at Casa Mia Hawthorne, 2421 Berlin Turnpike, Berlin.
In honor of Charlie’s lifelong contributions, donations can be made to the Newington Rotary Scholarship Fund, which he helped establish. Contributions can be mailed to Newington Rotary, P.O. Box 310094, Newington, CT 06111.
