RCTC Falls Short Against Riverland in Thrilling 73-68 Matchup

UPDATE: In an intense showdown, the Rochester Community and Technical College (RCTC) men’s basketball team narrowly lost to Riverland College with a final score of 73-68 on January 10, 2024, at the UCR Regional Sports Center. This defeat snapped RCTC’s two-game winning streak and marked their first loss in the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) this season.

With just under seven minutes left in the game, RCTC held a four-point lead, but Riverland surged ahead with a critical 6-0 run, securing the lead for the remainder of the match. The final minutes saw a relentless back-and-forth struggle, but Riverland maintained control, marking a significant victory for the Blue Devils, who improved to 16-1 overall this season.

Dominic Martinez-White led RCTC with a season-high 19 points, while teammates Sam Hemery and John Johnson contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively. Johnson also recorded 7 rebounds and 4 assists, showcasing his all-around performance. Carson Brown added valuable support with five assists.

Riverland’s offensive strength was evident as four players scored in double figures, with Tyson Helms and Isaiah Lindor each netting 16 points. Tristan Holmes added 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Joe Poyser dominated the boards with a game-high 9 rebounds.

This defeat places RCTC at 8-8 overall and 0-1 in MCAC play. The Yellowjackets will look to bounce back in their next match, scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. against St. Cloud Technical and Community College at the Mayo Civic Auditorium.
