Cowboys Prioritize Re-Signing Star RB Javonte Williams NOW
UPDATE: The Dallas Cowboys have declared re-signing running back Javonte Williams a top priority as the free agency period approaches. During a press conference on Wednesday, Cowboys co-owner Stephen Jones emphasized the urgency of retaining Williams, stating, “We want to bring him back… that’s one of our priorities to get him re-signed.”
The Cowboys successfully signed Williams to a one-year, $3 million deal last season, and he delivered exceptional performance, achieving career highs with 252 carries, 1,201 yards, and 13 touchdowns over 16 games. His impact was undeniable, making him a key player for the team.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer echoed the sentiment, expressing his hope that Williams will remain with the team long-term. “I hope he’s a Cowboy for a long time,” Schottenheimer remarked. The urgency to finalize negotiations is heightened, as Williams enters free agency for the second consecutive year.
Originally drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Williams showcased his talent during his rookie season with 903 rushing yards. However, a torn ACL early in his second season significantly impacted his performance over the following years. Now, he approaches free agency with renewed confidence and a clear vision for his future.
“I feel like it’s very special here,” Williams stated earlier this year, highlighting his desire to join a team where he can thrive beyond mere monetary incentives. This sentiment aligns perfectly with the Cowboys’ intentions, as they aim to build a competitive roster that includes talent like Williams.
As negotiations ramp up, fans and analysts alike are closely monitoring the Cowboys’ actions. The urgency to secure Williams’ services will be crucial as they look to maintain momentum from last season’s successes.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Cowboys work to solidify their roster and retain one of their standout players. The future of Javonte Williams with the Cowboys is on the line, and every moment counts as free agency approaches.
