Beloved Coach David N. Daniels Passes Away at 86 in Enfield

BREAKING NEWS: David N. Daniels, a cherished figure in Enfield and a distinguished baseball coach, has passed away at the age of 86. He peacefully left this world on January 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless lives.

Daniels was the devoted husband of 44 years to Jeanne Daniels. His remarkable journey began on February 19, 1939, in Middletown, where he was born to the late Norman and Okla (Climie) Daniels. A proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, he furthered his education at the University of Connecticut and earned a master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

His career spanned an impressive 35 years as a beloved baseball coach and Athletic Director at the University of Connecticut Hartford Division. Daniels’ passion for sports and mentorship extended beyond his professional tenure, impacting generations of students and athletes.

After retiring in 1998, he dedicated over 20 years to volunteering with the former Enfield Fish & Wildlife organization. An avid outdoorsman, Daniels enjoyed hunting and fishing, and he actively contributed to local sports by serving as an umpire for the Enfield adult men’s and women’s softball leagues.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children: Tracey Stankiewicz and her husband Tom, Scott Daniels and his wife Catherine, Tammy Arthurs and her husband John, Heather Rounbehler, Stephen Clapp and his wife Rebecca, and Tracey Bonanni and her husband Craig. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Diane Mahoney and her husband John.

Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, located at 61 South Road, Enfield. A brief memorial service will commence at 7:00 PM, allowing family and friends to honor his memory together.
