Mercedes-Benz Launches Advanced MB.Drive Assist Pro at CES 2026

JUST ANNOUNCED: Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its cutting-edge driver assistance system, MB.Drive Assist Pro, at CES 2026, promising to enhance urban driving experiences in new vehicles starting this spring. This innovative feature, which will debut on the all-new CLA EV, aims to compete directly with Tesla’s Full Self-Driving technology.

During a media demonstration in San Francisco, Mercedes showcased MB.Drive Assist Pro’s impressive capabilities, which include operating on city streets—a significant advancement over other systems focusing solely on highway travel. The system, already proven with over 15 million miles (24 billion kilometers) driven globally, is designed to handle the complexities of urban driving, where real-time decision-making is crucial.

Christoph von Hugo, head of active safety at Mercedes, emphasized the system’s “point-to-point” driving prowess, allowing for seamless navigation through both highways and cityscapes. He described Assist Pro as a “Level 2++ system,” arguing that drivers remain highly engaged and alert, which differentiates it from conventional Level 2 systems.

The demonstration included a 20-minute drive through San Francisco’s bustling North Beach, where the CLA adeptly navigated obstacles like double-parked cars and pedestrians. The vehicle’s ability to adapt to unexpected scenarios impressed observers, although it did exhibit some typical challenges seen in automated driving, such as hesitant stops at four-way intersections.

Mercedes partnered with Nvidia to enhance the software capabilities of Assist Pro, integrating advanced technology that includes 10 cameras and five radar sensors. Ali Kani, head of automotive products at Nvidia, highlighted the use of synthetic data for training the automated system, ensuring high safety standards in self-driving scenarios.

With the launch of MB.Drive Assist Pro, Mercedes-Benz is positioning itself as a leader in the driver assistance market, directly challenging Tesla’s dominance.
