The Las Vegas Raiders have terminated the contract of head coach Pete Carroll following a disappointing 3-14 season. Carroll, who previously led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory, spent just one season with the Raiders. The team now faces the challenge of finding their fifth permanent head coach since relocating to Las Vegas in 2020.

The Raiders’ struggles this season culminated in finishing with the worst record in the NFL, earning them the first overall pick in the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft. According to local news outlet News 3 LV, General Manager John Spytek will lead the search for a new head coach, collaborating closely with minority owner Tom Brady.

Carroll’s hiring followed a 4-13 record under former coach Antonio Pierce. His tenure with the Seahawks from 2010 to 2023 was marked by a Super Bowl win, two NFC championships, and multiple division titles, as reported by FOX 5. However, the Raiders’ offense struggled significantly this season, finishing last in the league for both points and yards. Quarterback Geno Smith led the NFL with 17 interceptions, highlighting the team’s offensive challenges.

Midseason changes, including the firings of offensive coordinator Chip Kelly and special teams coordinator Tom McMahon, failed to yield the desired improvement. Carroll expressed his surprise at the team’s performance, stating, “I’ve never even dreamed it would be like this, but … these guys will continue to work and they’ll stay with it.”

As the Raiders embark on their search for a new head coach, the organization is looking to reverse their fortunes and improve upon a season that fell far short of expectations. The upcoming months will be crucial for the franchise as they aim to rebuild and reinvigorate their competitive spirit.
