Triple Homicide in Oakland: Family Mourns Father, 54, Killed
BREAKING: A devastating triple homicide unfolded early Saturday morning at Sky Market in East Oakland, claiming the life of 54-year-old Miguel Ramirez Rivera and two others. Family members confirmed his identity as they mourn the loss of a loving father taken from them “in the wrong place at the wrong time.” The shooting occurred just after 3 a.m. at 8433 International Blvd, close to Ramirez Rivera’s home.
Authorities report that an argument erupted inside the store, escalating to violence when at least one individual opened fire. Alongside Ramirez Rivera, who succumbed to injuries later at a hospital, a 19-year-old and a 22-year-old were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released. Fortunately, no store employees were harmed during this tragic incident.
Family members expressed their devastation in an online fundraising campaign, stating, “Our dad didn’t deserve this. He was just someone going about his life.” They are seeking $6,000 to cover unexpected funeral and memorial expenses. As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe has raised $5,565. The family described their shock, noting, “This loss was sudden, violent, and completely unexpected.”
The Oakland Police Department confirmed that Ramirez Rivera was not an intended target of the shooting. As the investigation continues, no arrests have been made, leaving the community reeling from this senseless act of violence. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact homicide investigators at 510-238-3821 or 510-238-7950.
This tragic event comes amid an alarming rise in Oakland’s homicide rate. In 2025, there have been 66 homicides, with 56 classified as murders, marking a stark increase from the previous year. Just days into this month, city police have already investigated five homicides, raising concerns about safety in the community.
As the family navigates their grief, they emphasize the importance of remembering Ramirez Rivera as more than just a victim. They call for an end to violence, sharing that their lives have been “turned upside down” due to this tragic event. The community is mourning alongside them, reflecting on the need for greater safety and support in Oakland.
Anyone wishing to support the family can contribute to the GoFundMe at https://www.gofundme.com/f/gc8v3y-support-for-our-family-after-tragic-loss. The emotional impact of this shooting resonates throughout the community, urging a collective call for peace and justice.
