Parkland Triumphs 54-49 Over Central Catholic in Thrilling Clash
UPDATE: In a nail-biting finish, Parkland High School defeated Allentown Central Catholic 54-49 on January 13, 2024, at Rockne Hall, marking a critical victory for both teams as they head into the heart of the season. This win boosts Parkland’s confidence as they look toward the upcoming playoffs.
The game was defined by a stunning comeback from Parkland, who trailed early but saw a remarkable second-quarter surge. Senior Tyler Beck led the Trojans with a career-high 19 points, including a pivotal 3-pointer that extended their lead to 37-25 in the third quarter. “I felt really good today,” Beck said. “My guys had my back and had confidence in me.”
After a sluggish start, Parkland’s leading scorer, Blake Nassry, found his rhythm, scoring seven points in the third quarter. The Trojans overcame a 16-9 deficit thanks to a collective effort from Beck, Jude Ruisch, and Ryan Kearney, who dominated the second quarter with all 18 points scored.
Central Catholic, now 8-4 overall and 3-1 in the EPC, began strong but faltered in the decisive third quarter. Coach Dennis Csensits expressed concern over his team’s performance, stating, “They came out and hit a couple of big shots, and it snowballed on us.”
Despite a late comeback attempt, sparked by a half-court trap that led to a steal and layup from Di’Quawn Leaks, Central Catholic struggled to capitalize on their opportunities. Parkland maintained their composure, with Nassry and Kearney going a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the final minutes.
The victory ends a three-game losing streak for Parkland, who faced tough competition prior to this match. Coach Eddie Ohlson noted the need for building chemistry as they adapt to injuries that have sidelined two starters. “This will help us with our depth,” he said, referring to the return of TJ Lawrence and Javien Porter in the coming weeks.
As both teams gear up for the rigorous EPC schedule ahead, this match serves as a powerful reminder of their potential and resilience. The Trojans, currently ranked No. 3 in the lehighvalleylive Top 12, look to build on this momentum as they prepare for the next phase of the season.
Fans eagerly anticipate what lies ahead for these dynamic teams. Will Parkland continue their winning streak? Can Central Catholic regroup and reclaim their momentum? Stay tuned for more updates on this thrilling basketball season!
