A man from Tioga County, Pennsylvania, has received a prison sentence ranging from eight to twenty years for sexually assaulting a minor. Philip McCormick, 39, from Blossburg, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child under 16 years old, unlawful contact with a minor, and aggravated indecent assault against a person younger than 16. This case underscores the ongoing commitment of law enforcement to protect children and prosecute those who exploit their trust.

The abuse began when the victim was just 13 years old and continued for approximately two years. According to the investigation, McCormick was well acquainted with the child, using their relationship to gain access and exploit her. The situation was brought to light when the victim disclosed the abuse to her mother, prompting an investigation by authorities.

Attorney General Dave Sunday emphasized the profound impact of McCormick’s actions, stating that the crimes inflicted lasting harm on a child who considered him a trustworthy adult. He reiterated his office’s commitment to holding child predators accountable and supporting victims of abuse.

As part of the sentence, McCormick is mandated to register as a Megan’s Law offender for life, ensuring that his status as a convicted sex offender remains public knowledge. The prosecution was led by Deputy Attorneys General Rachael Coleman and Andrew Biggins, who worked diligently to bring this case to justice.

The sentencing of McCormick serves as a reminder of the critical importance of vigilance in protecting children from predators. Authorities continue to encourage anyone who suspects abuse to report it immediately, emphasizing the importance of community awareness and action.

This case highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement and legal officials in Pennsylvania to combat child sexual abuse and support victims in their pursuit of justice.
