After traveling through Italy and Spain, Lynch found herself longing for a coastal life. “I loved Florence, but I couldn’t afford to stay there long-term,” she explained. While she cherished the vibrant culture and friendly locals of Florence, the high cost of living proved unsustainable on her savings.

Now settled in Audenge, Lynch is paying €1,200 (approximately $1,400) for a quiet, furnished duplex, which includes utilities. She has embraced the local culture, navigating the complexities of a new language and lifestyle. “It’s a huge leap to push myself out of my comfort zone,” she noted, reflecting on the challenges of adjusting to unfamiliar towns and customs.

Despite the hurdles, Lynch emphasizes the personal growth she has experienced. “I’m not afraid to stay in new places, eat alone, or ask strangers for help,” she remarked. With a monthly budget of around $3,000, Lynch believes she can sustain her life in Europe, a stark contrast to the frantic pace she left behind in California.

While she acknowledges that her new life is not a fairytale, Lynch feels it is an improvement over her previous situation. She has forged connections with locals and has even acquired a car for €18,600 (approximately $21,802.83) to facilitate her exploration of the beautiful surrounding areas.

Looking ahead, Lynch plans to tackle the challenge of obtaining her French driver’s license, a task she approaches with determination despite her basic language skills. “I know I can do it because I’ve already managed so many other things,” she stated confidently.

As she settles into her new life, Lynch remains hopeful and pragmatic. She is committed to staying in Europe, stating, “Returning to the United States would mean starting from scratch.” With her journey still unfolding, Lynch is carving out a life in France that, while not perfect, is filled with promise and peace.
