Major TV News Shake-Up in D-FW: Key Anchors Depart in 2023
UPDATE: The Dallas-Fort Worth television news landscape is undergoing significant changes, with multiple prominent departures confirmed in 2023. This year has seen a series of shocking exits that could reshape local broadcasts for years to come.
Just announced: Veteran meteorologist Evan Andrews retired in October 2023 after an impressive 25 years at the station. He expressed his desire to spend more time with his family in a heartfelt Facebook post.
Another major shift involves anchor Hanna Battah, who has left her weekday morning role after over seven years with the station. In a surprise move, she is now co-anchoring for ABC’s World News Now and Good Morning America First Look, leaving viewers eager to see her next chapter unfold.
Weekend anchor Cleo Greene announced in January 2023 that her position was eliminated, but shortly after, she transitioned to host NBC 5’s lifestyle show. This comes after she joined WFAA in 2018.
In a wave of departures, Kyle Roberts, a weekend morning meteorologist, exited in January 2023 after over eight years at the station. Meanwhile, reporter and weekend morning anchor Evan Anderson faced job elimination in November 2023 after six years with the network.
The turbulence continued with Keenan Willard announcing his move to NBC Los Angeles and Telemundo 52 in November 2023. In an emotional post, evening anchor Nicole Baker confirmed her departure due to layoffs at Paramount Skydance, the station’s parent company, where she had worked for over three years.
Chief meteorologist Scott Padgett, a familiar face for nearly a decade, left in May 2023 to join CBS New York’s First Alert Weather team. Following him, meteorologist Brittany Rainey departed in November 2023 for a position at Nashville’s News Channel 5.
The departures of these well-known figures highlight a significant shift in D-FW TV news, raising questions about the future programming landscape and viewer experience.
As these changes unfold, viewers are keen to see who will fill these crucial roles and how the dynamics of local news will evolve. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops.
