AI-Generated Video Misleads on Uttar Pradesh Healthcare Crisis
A video falsely linked to India’s healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh has surfaced online, generating significant discussion about the state’s medical challenges. Despite ongoing issues such as corruption, staff shortages, and overcrowded facilities, there have been no confirmed incidents of a patient falling from an ambulance, as depicted in the clip. The creator of the video stated it was generated using artificial intelligence (AI).
The clip, shared widely on social media, shows a patient on a stretcher appearing to tumble out of an ambulance and roll along the Yamuna Expressway. The caption accompanying the video criticized the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its handling of healthcare in the state, asking viewers, “Is this what the ideal kingdom should look like?” This post was made on December 10, 2025, and included text suggesting a lack of government action to address patient needs.
Concerns regarding the healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh are well-documented. Reports indicate that facilities often suffer from inadequate resources and mismanagement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s BJP has announced plans to improve healthcare services, focusing on disease control and maternal health. However, opposition leader and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has accused the BJP of neglecting the healthcare sector, stating that the party has “destroyed” the system.
The AI-generated video has sparked a mix of outrage and disbelief among social media users. Comments on the posts reveal a strong sentiment against the state government, with one user lamenting that “only God can save the patient” in Uttar Pradesh. Yet, no credible evidence supports the claim that such a dramatic incident occurred on the 165.5-kilometre-long (102 miles) Yamuna Expressway.
A reverse image search revealed the video was initially posted on a Facebook page called “Bargachhi Krishi Farm” on December 8. The page’s owner, Hemsagar Bhattarai, a Nepali laborer based in Doha, admitted to creating the video with AI tools to boost engagement on his social media accounts. Bhattarai, who aims to earn extra income through his online presence, stated, “This was the first time I used ChatGPT and Sora AI to create a video, and it went viral.”
Analysis of the video revealed several inconsistencies typical of AI-generated content. For instance, the patient’s oxygen mask appears unconnected to a tank, and the ambulance is missing a door. Furthermore, vehicles seen in the footage exhibit unusual shapes, and random cars appear during playback. A check with Hive Moderation’s AI video detector indicated a 95 percent probability that the video was AI-generated or a deepfake.
This incident highlights the challenges of misinformation in the digital age, particularly regarding sensitive topics such as healthcare. Previous investigations by reputable sources, including AFP, have exposed other AI-generated videos misrepresenting real events. As the line between reality and artificial content blurs, it becomes increasingly vital for viewers to critically evaluate information circulating online.
