Corner Canyon’s Eric Kjar Takes Helm as Weber State Football Coach
Eric Kjar, a prominent high school football coach from Corner Canyon, has been appointed as the new head football coach at Weber State University. This announcement was made on Tuesday, marking a significant transition for both Kjar and the Wildcats program.
Success in High School Football
During his tenure at Corner Canyon, Kjar established himself as one of Utah’s most successful coaches, amassing a remarkable record of 112-10 over 14 years. His achievements include securing seven 6A state titles, just one shy of the state record, with six titles coming in the last eight seasons. Notably, Kjar led Corner Canyon to two three-peats, showcasing his ability to cultivate winning teams consistently.
Following his latest state championship victory in November 2023, Corner Canyon earned a spot in the inaugural high school national championship game, competing against St. Francis Academy. Kjar’s coaching prowess has not only been recognized at the high school level but has also helped develop players who went on to excel in college football, including several quarterbacks drafted into the NFL. The most notable among them is Zach Wilson, who was selected second overall by the New York Jets in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Building a Championship Culture
Expressing his enthusiasm about the new role, Kjar stated, “I’m very excited to be leading the Weber State football program. I believe strongly in the administration and the current roster and the talent in the state of Utah. I know we can build a championship-caliber program at Weber State, and I look forward to the challenge and getting started. Go Wildcats!”
Weber State athletics director Tim Crompton praised Kjar’s qualifications, stating, “Coach Kjar is absolutely the right leader at the right time. His deep Utah roots, proven leadership, and unwavering ability to build a program on a foundation of talent and character are the precise qualities that Weber State is looking for.” Crompton emphasized that Kjar’s vision would elevate the program and align with the institution’s core values.
As Kjar transitions to Weber State, he brings not only a wealth of experience but also a commitment to recruiting and retaining student-athletes who will contribute to the program’s success both on and off the field. Crompton highlighted the excitement surrounding Kjar’s arrival, noting, “This is an exciting day not just for Weber State athletics, but for the entire institution and community.”
Kjar, a family man with four children, is set to immerse himself in the Weber State community, aiming to foster a winning culture. With his strong background and proven results, he is expected to make a significant impact at Weber State in the upcoming seasons.
