Oakland Police Rescue Missing Teen from Alleged Trafficker
URGENT UPDATE: A 17-year-old girl, known in court records as “Jane Doe,” has been rescued from an alleged sex trafficking situation after her images surfaced on a prostitution advertisement. Authorities confirmed the girl had been missing for approximately six weeks before Oakland police acted decisively to bring her to safety.
On November 13, 2023, Oakland police investigators went undercover, responding to the advertisement that featured Jane Doe. Posing as a potential buyer, they arranged to meet her at a hotel located on the 1800 block of Embarcadero in Oakland. This critical operation unfolded just moments after the police discovered her whereabouts.
When Jane Doe arrived, she was reportedly with a 31-year-old man identified as Melvin Williams, who was driving a white Tesla. Authorities allege Williams was trafficking the teen, supported by a significant amount of electronic evidence showing over 1,500 communications between him and Doe. Alarmingly, he was saved in her phone under the name “Daddy,” which raises serious concerns about the nature of their relationship.
Further investigation revealed disturbing details: Williams allegedly provided Jane Doe with condoms and had a photo of himself on her phone, flaunting large amounts of cash. In one text exchange, Doe even asked Williams for permission to use the restroom, highlighting her vulnerable position.
Williams has been charged with three felonies: human trafficking, pandering, and soliciting a minor into prostitution. He was arrested on November 13 but has since been released from jail, as confirmed by court records. Charges were officially filed on November 25. Despite the serious allegations, Williams has not yet been re-arrested, and his place of residence has not been disclosed in court filings. Notably, he has a history of three prior convictions in Los Angeles County.
Jane Doe was last seen in Southern California before her disappearance, raising alarm bells about the conditions leading to her being featured in the ad. This case underscores the urgent need for vigilance against human trafficking, a growing issue affecting communities nationwide.
As authorities continue their investigation, they urge anyone with information related to this case or similar situations to come forward. The immediate danger has been averted for Jane Doe, but the fight against trafficking persists. Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops, and share this urgent information to raise awareness about the ongoing issues surrounding human trafficking.
