Join the Annual Turkey Toss at Vanderbilt on December 16
Vanderbilt University will hold its much-anticipated annual Turkey Toss on December 16, 2023, from 06:00 to 18:00. This year’s event takes place in the Multipurpose Room, Great Room, and café within Carmichael College. It will also mark the conclusion of Vanderbilt’s Sesquicentennial celebrations.
The Turkey Toss is a cherished tradition for the Vanderbilt community, open to staff, faculty, and postdoctoral scholars. Participants will receive a large Vanderbilt insulated bag, which can be filled with a choice of regular turkeys, halal options, or tofurkey. Alternatively, attendees may opt for a Vanderbilt-branded scarf. All items are available while supplies last, so early arrival is encouraged.
To collect a turkey or scarf, attendees must present a Vanderbilt ID or proof of employment. A separate ID is required for each item picked up for colleagues. In addition to the food items, the event will feature light refreshments, giveaways of Vanderbilt merchandise, and engaging games and crafts for attendees.
Transportation and Accessibility
For those needing transportation around campus, VandyRide shuttles will operate throughout the event. Two shuttles will run from 07:00 to 09:00, increasing to five shuttles from 09:00 to 18:00. Shuttle stops include Terrace Garage, Wesley Garage, Magnolia Circle, Sony Garage, West Garage, 25th Garage, and Carmichael. After servicing Carmichael, shuttles will resume their routes. Attendees can access live route updates via the Passio Go website or app.
For individuals requiring ADA accommodations to facilitate the pickup of their turkey or other items, it is advised to contact the event coordinators at [email protected] by 17:00 CT on December 11.
Unclaimed turkeys will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, allowing the spirit of giving to extend beyond the event.
Those interested in volunteering for the Turkey Toss are encouraged to register online. For further inquiries regarding the event, please reach out to [email protected].
Join the Vanderbilt community for a final celebration of the university’s first 150 years. The Turkey Toss promises to be a festive occasion filled with camaraderie and holiday spirit.
