Jaguar’s Type 00 Shines in London Amid Design Shake-Up
URGENT UPDATE: Jaguar’s extravagant Type 00 concept car has made a stunning reappearance in London, just as the company faces a significant leadership shake-up. The electric vehicle (EV), designed to redefine Jaguar’s luxury image, was showcased in front of a prestigious hotel to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the brand’s first vehicle, the 1935 SS Jaguar.
The flamboyant coupe, recently resprayed in a striking London Red matte finish, is back in the limelight amid reports of Tata Motors firing design chief Gerry McGovern earlier this week. This eye-catching display at the Chancery Rosewood hotel attracted a star-studded lineup of luxury cars, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan and a Bugatti Chiron, but the Type 00 undeniably stole the show.
Why is this unveiling crucial NOW? Jaguar is shifting its focus from mainstream competitors like BMW to the ultra-luxury market, setting its sights on brands like Bentley. With 85 percent of future buyers expected to be new customers, Jaguar is eager to attract a fresh audience with the Type 00. Managing director Rawdon Glover revealed that the starting price will be around $130,000, positioning it competitively against vehicles like the Porsche Taycan 4S.
While the production-ready model was initially slated for debut by the end of this year, it has been pushed back to 2026. However, deliveries are still expected to commence before the year ends, leaving car enthusiasts eagerly anticipating this new chapter for Jaguar. Glover emphasizes that the Type 00 aims to “create a real visceral reaction,” promising a blend of drama and innovation that could reshape the luxury automotive landscape.
The Type 00’s bold marketing strategy has sparked significant conversation among automotive enthusiasts. This unconventional approach is a gamble for Jaguar, which has already acknowledged that their traditional customer base may not embrace this new direction.
In a decisive move, Jaguar has discontinued all previous models except for the F-Pace, which will also be phased out by 2026. This leaves the Type 00 as the brand’s flagship model, marking a significant shift away from combustion engines. The future lineup will focus exclusively on fully electric vehicles, signaling a new era for the iconic brand.
As Jaguar navigates this transformative period, the Type 00 serves as a beacon of its ambitious vision. While its return to the spotlight is unconventional for a year-old concept, it successfully reignites interest and discussion surrounding Jaguar’s future. The stakes are high, and the automotive world is watching closely as the countdown to the Type 00’s release begins.
Stay tuned for more updates as Jaguar prepares to redefine luxury driving with its bold new offerings.
