The Na Makua Invitational Christmas Gift Fair opens its doors this weekend, inviting the public to experience a showcase of handmade arts, crafts, and unique gift items. Scheduled for December 1 from 14:00 to 19:00 and December 2 from 09:00 to 15:00, the fair will take place at the Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii.

Organized by Nelson and Kainoa Makua from Na Makua Hawaiian Designs, the event features a diverse array of vendors from the Big Island, as well as Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Attendees can explore a wide variety of products, including jewelry, Christmas decorations, bags, designer apparel, local wood crafts, gourmet foods, and original artwork. The Makua family emphasizes the quality and uniqueness of the offerings, with Kainoa stating, “We have always believed that it is the vendors and the quality of their products who make the event.”

The fair will also spotlight local fashion designers, such as WahineToa, Living Hula, Kumumea, and Wehi’s Boutique. The Makua family is well-known in the community for their extensive experience in event production, having organized numerous successful gatherings over the past 24 years.

In addition to shopping, the fair will feature live musical performances. On Friday, audiences can enjoy sets by Darlene Ahuna and Nailima Gaison, along with a performance from the students of Ke Kula Nawahiokalani‘opu‘u. Saturday’s lineup includes Gavin Mata, Lito Arkangel, and Christy Lassiter, with Kuehu Mauga serving as emcee.

Throughout the event, attendees will have the chance to win prizes in drawings held at various times. Additionally, a food concession will be available, offering a selection of local delicacies to enhance the festive atmosphere.

“We strive to make our event the best that it can be,” Kainoa Makua noted. “And the best part is that this is a free event, so we invite everyone to come and enjoy the festivities with the entire ‘ohana.”
