Daniel Stern Explains Absence from ‘Home Alone’ Anniversary Events
Fans of the classic holiday film Home Alone will not see actor Daniel Stern at any upcoming anniversary events celebrating the movie’s 35th anniversary. Stern, who portrayed Marv, one of the bumbling burglars targeting the McCallister household, has opted to stay at his farm rather than participate in in-person celebrations.
In an interview with People magazine, Stern shared his reasons for avoiding public appearances, stating, “I don’t leave my farm. It’s no offense to the movie. I’m just … a phone call, Zoom call, I’m in. but… I’m a bit of a homebody.”
Stern, now 68, has embraced a quieter lifestyle, focusing on his work as a sculptor while his wife manages their cattle and citrus trees. Although he appreciates the enduring popularity of Home Alone, he expressed that the attention he receives can be overwhelming. “I love knowing that everybody loves it but, like, actual people come at me and say, ‘We love it.’ It’s a little overwhelming sometimes,” he noted.
While Stern remains at home, his former co-star Macaulay Culkin has been actively participating in promotional events across the United States. Culkin has been engaging with fans and sharing insights about the film. Recently, he even hinted at the possibility of reprising his role as Kevin McAllister in a new Home Alone movie, over three decades after the original release.
Stern’s decision to forgo live appearances reflects a personal choice to prioritize his peace and privacy, despite the film’s significant cultural impact. As the anniversary celebrations unfold, fans will continue to remember the beloved film and its memorable characters, even if one of its stars prefers to celebrate from afar.
