The Cleveland Browns suffered a crushing defeat against the San Francisco 49ers, losing 26-8 on November 30, 2025, at Huntington Bank Field. This loss drops the Browns’ record to 3-9, marking their 23rd losing season since the team was re-established as an expansion franchise in 1999. With this defeat, the team has confirmed its trend of disappointing performances under head coach Kevin Stefanski, who has now overseen four losing seasons in just six years.

The game showcased familiar issues plaguing the franchise for years, as the team struggled to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Despite generating nine possessions, the Browns managed to score only once. A 34-yard touchdown pass from rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders to Harold Fannin gave the Browns a brief lead of 8-7 just before halftime. However, the team’s inability to maintain momentum ultimately cost them the game.

In the second half, the Browns’ offensive struggles continued, with their deepest penetration reaching the 49ers’ 28-yard line. Sanders completed 16 of 25 passes for 149 yards, including one touchdown pass and no interceptions. Nonetheless, a series of turnovers on downs highlighted the inconsistency that has plagued the franchise.

One of the most significant moments came with 7:08 left in the third quarter. The Browns, trailing 10-8, faced a critical fourth-and-1 situation at their own 33-yard line. A miscommunication led to a fumbled snap by Fannin, allowing the 49ers’ linebacker Luke Gifford to recover the ball. The 49ers capitalized on the turnover, scoring another touchdown that widened their lead.

“I have to be better,” Sanders said after the game, acknowledging the team’s need for improvement. Right guard Wyatt Teller expressed disappointment, stating, “We ran that play a hundred times in practice… Until you learn to handle the little things, it’s hard to get those conversions.”

The Browns’ special teams also faltered, reminiscent of previous games where mistakes on special teams led to critical points for the opposition. A 66-yard punt return by Skyy Moore set up the 49ers’ first touchdown. Rookie Gage Larvadain struggled throughout the game, fumbling a punt early on and later mishandling another, which resulted in a turnover that led to a touchdown pass from Brock Purdy to Jauan Jennings.

Post-game, Stefanski attributed the mistakes to inexperience, stating, “We had some young guys make some young mistakes today.” As the 49ers improved to 9-4 with this victory, the Browns faced the harsh reality of their current standing. For their fans, the repeated cycles of hope and disappointment continue to cast a long shadow over the franchise, which has yet to shake off the struggles that have defined it for nearly three decades.

As the season draws to a close, the Browns will need to reassess their strategies and make critical adjustments to avoid further setbacks in the future. The team remains committed to finding solutions, but the road ahead appears daunting.
