Apple TV’s ‘Pluribus’ Dominates Streaming Charts, Boosts ‘Breaking Bad’
The new Apple TV science-fiction series Pluribus has achieved remarkable success, maintaining the number one spot on the streaming platform’s viewership charts since its release. This latest creation from acclaimed writer and director Vince Gilligan is capturing audiences’ attention and proving once again that anything associated with Gilligan becomes a must-watch event.
The show’s impressive popularity has had a notable impact on its predecessor, Breaking Bad, which has seen a resurgence in viewership coinciding with the debut of Pluribus. According to data from FlixPatrol, Breaking Bad recently reclaimed the top position on domestic iTunes charts, highlighting the enduring legacy of this iconic series. Originally airing from 2008 to 2013, Breaking Bad is often regarded as one of the finest television dramas ever produced, alongside other classics from the Golden Age of Television such as Mad Men and Game of Thrones.
Breaking Bad follows Walter White, a chemistry teacher diagnosed with terminal cancer who turns to manufacturing methamphetamine to secure his family’s financial future. As Walter becomes increasingly drawn into the criminal world, his noble intentions are overshadowed by his descent into obsession and moral ambiguity. The series received universal acclaim for its writing, performances, and distinctive tone, paving the way for its lead actor, Bryan Cranston, to gain renewed recognition in the industry.
Cranston’s co-star, Aaron Paul, also garnered significant attention, ultimately leading to his starring role in the spin-off film, El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, which premiered on Netflix. This continued interest in the Breaking Bad franchise highlights the lasting impact of Gilligan’s storytelling.
Critical Acclaim for ‘Pluribus’
Pluribus has opened to some of the best reviews of Gilligan’s career, achieving a remarkable 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have praised the show’s originality, with the consensus noting, “Genuinely original science-fiction fare from television veteran Vince Gilligan, Pluribus leads Rhea Seehorn through a brave new world with plentiful returns.” This strong reception mirrors that of Gilligan’s previous projects, including Better Call Saul, which aired from 2015 to 2022 and received an impressive 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The reunion of Gilligan with actress Rhea Seehorn, who plays a pivotal role in Pluribus, has been met with enthusiasm. Seehorn’s performance is contributing to the show’s positive reception, further solidifying her status as a talented actress in the television landscape.
As audiences continue to flock to Pluribus, the renewed interest in Breaking Bad serves as a testament to the show’s enduring quality and Gilligan’s ability to create compelling narratives. The intertwining success of these two series underscores the profound influence of exceptional storytelling in the realm of television.
In a landscape filled with content, the achievements of Pluribus stand out, demonstrating the potential for new series to reignite interest in beloved classics. Viewers are not only discovering Pluribus but also revisiting the masterful storytelling that has become synonymous with Vince Gilligan’s name.
