Iran Launches Retaliatory Strike Near US Navy Base in Bahrain
On Saturday, Iran conducted a retaliatory strike near a US Navy base in Bahrain, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions. This attack followed a series of strikes by the United States and Israel aimed at Iranian officials and military installations. Video footage acquired by The Post captured a massive explosion near the base, which is critical to the operations of the US Fifth Fleet, responsible for naval activities in the Middle East.
The video, taken from a vehicle in the vicinity, shows a large cloud of dark smoke rising into the sky following the explosion. Passengers in the vehicle can be heard expressing shock and fear as shrapnel is sent flying. While the immediate effects of the strike remain unclear, officials are monitoring the situation closely.
In a broader context, additional Iranian strikes targeted US military bases across the region, including locations in Qatar, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan. This wave of retaliatory actions came after the US and Israeli military operations, termed “Operation Epic Fury,” were launched in response to Iran’s refusal to negotiate on its nuclear program.
President Trump emphasized the United States’ commitment to preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons. In an eight-minute video address, he reiterated, “We will ensure that Iran does not obtain a nuclear weapon. It’s a very simple message. They will never have a nuclear weapon.”
Trump highlighted the strength of the US military presence in the region, which has been enhanced with the deployment of two carrier strike groups, including the USS Gerald R. Ford and the USS Abraham Lincoln. He stated, “I built and rebuilt the military in my first administration and there’s no military on earth even close to its power, strength or sophistication.”
While acknowledging the potential for casualties from Iranian attacks, Trump assured that measures are in place to minimize risks to US personnel. He cautioned, “The Iranian regime seeks to kill the lives of courageous American heroes. We may have casualties, but we’re doing this not for now, we’re doing this for the future and it is a noble mission.”
The situation in the Persian Gulf continues to evolve as both sides remain poised for further actions. The international community is watching closely, given the potential consequences for regional stability and global security.
