Urgent Manhunt for Hit-and-Run Drivers in South Austin Crash
BREAKING: A serious hit-and-run incident in South Austin has left a moped rider critically injured, prompting an urgent manhunt for two drivers who fled the scene. The crash occurred on Friday evening in the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive, transforming a regular commute into a major police investigation.
Authorities confirm that the rider was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. The Austin Police Department (APD) is now appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the two vehicles involved in this shocking incident.
According to APD, the first vehicle—a dark-colored pickup, believed to be a 2015–2022 Chevrolet Colorado with a bed cover—struck the moped operator. As the victim lay on the ground, a silver sedan then ran over the rider. Investigators report that the pickup was driven by a woman, while the sedan was operated by a man. Neither driver stopped to render aid.
UPDATE: The pickup is expected to have noticeable front-right damage. Images of both vehicles have been released, and detectives are urging anyone who recognizes them to come forward immediately.
The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated. Police are actively seeking information from the community. Individuals with tips can submit an anonymous report to Capital Area Crime Stoppers at austincrimestoppers.org or call 512-472-8477. Those who provide information leading to an arrest may qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
Additionally, investigators are requesting anyone with video, photos, or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to preserve that material and share it with APD’s Vehicular Homicide Unit at 512-974-8111.
This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers on our roads and the critical need for community involvement in ensuring justice for victims. The APD is committed to holding those responsible accountable, and the public’s assistance is vital in achieving that goal.
