Catawba County Hosts Urgent Hazardous Waste Disposal on Nov. 1
URGENT UPDATE: Catawba County residents are urged to take action as the annual fall cleanup event for hazardous waste disposal is set for Saturday, November 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory. This is a critical opportunity for locals to safely dispose of hazardous household items and protect the environment.
Accepted materials include styrofoam, paints, automotive products, pesticides, electronics, and household cleaners like oven cleaners, disinfectants, and pine cleaners. Residents must act quickly, as this event is a vital part of Catawba County’s effort to enhance public health and environmental safety.
The event is organized by Catawba County Utilities and Engineering in partnership with the City of Hickory, aiming to facilitate proper waste management in the community. However, not all items are accepted. Residents should note that tires, radioactive waste, biologically active materials, and explosives are prohibited. Additionally, household garbage and electronics with broken screens or missing parts will not be collected.
For ongoing waste disposal, Catawba County residents can utilize the Blackburn Landfill year-round for items like paint, electronics, and household batteries at no charge during regular landfill hours.
Next Steps: Residents are encouraged to gather their hazardous materials and participate in this essential event. For more information, contact Catawba County Utilities and Engineering at 828-465-8217 or visit their website.
This event not only aids in responsible waste disposal but also supports a cleaner, safer community. Don’t miss this opportunity to contribute to environmental safety and public health in Catawba County!
