Bangor Girls Basketball Eyes Strong Season Under New Coach Hermanson
UPDATE: The Bangor High School girls basketball team is gearing up for an electrifying season as they launch their campaign this Saturday, December 20, 2024, at 12:30 PM against Brunswick. With a new head coach, Kristin Hermanson, at the helm, the Rams are poised to build on last season’s 13-7 record and make a significant impact in the league.
This season brings fresh energy and leadership, with Hermanson stepping in after former coach Jay Kemble took over the boys’ program. A former captain at the University of Maine and a prolific scorer in high school, Hermanson is ready to lead a veteran team that boasts four talented seniors, including standout players Avery Clark and Dalaney Horr, who are coming off a successful soccer season.
Clark, who ranked in the top five across multiple categories last season, is expected to be a key player. She averaged 15.1 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3.1 steals per game. “We have a lot of strengths, including our speed,” Clark emphasized, adding that teamwork will be crucial for their success. Meanwhile, Horr led the division in steals and is confident about the team’s potential: “We’re going to be really fast.”
Hermanson’s vision for the team centers around maximizing their athleticism. “We have length and speed, and while we may not have a lot of height, we have strong defenders,” she explained. The Rams are determined to continue their tradition of solid, aggressive defense, having allowed just an average of 40.1 points per game last year.
The senior leadership extends beyond Clark and Horr, with Gabby Roy and Clara Oldenburg also playing pivotal roles. Roy, who averaged 3.7 rebounds last season, shares Hermanson’s enthusiasm: “I love this team. They are hard workers, and we just need to put the pieces together.”
The Rams are also welcoming new players this season, including junior Avery Fullwood, who is joining the varsity team for the first time, and Kaylee Folsom, a sophomore, and Daphne Derdowski, a freshman. Hermanson is eager to integrate these newcomers into the team dynamic.
As the season kicks off, the Rams are focused on their goals and the challenges ahead. “We have to show up and get to work every day because it won’t be easy,” Hermanson stated. The team’s chemistry is evident, with players like Clark believing that their close-knit relationships will enhance their performance on the court.
With the season beginning imminently, Bangor fans are eager to see how this promising team will perform under new leadership. Stay tuned as the Rams aim to make their mark in the Class AA North competition!
