Discovery Shoppe League Donates $15,000 to Local School
On October 29, 2023, the Discovery Shoppe League, a non-profit organization operating in Chico since 1959, presented a check for $15,000 to Shasta Elementary School. The donation was made by volunteer Shelley Tedford to teacher Parker Bush and students Emma Barnum and Nick Bonacich. The funds will support fifth-grade students from Shasta Elementary in attending the Shady Creek Environmental Camp, which offers a four-day, three-night educational adventure focused on environmental awareness.
The Discovery Shoppe, located at 315 Flume Street in Chico, is entirely operated by volunteers, with all proceeds directed back into the community. This year, the organization is set to award over $165,381 to sixteen local charities, reinforcing its commitment to community support and development.
The presentation of the check highlights not only the generosity of the Discovery Shoppe League but also the importance of community involvement in providing educational opportunities for children. Programs like the one at Shady Creek allow students to engage with nature and learn valuable skills outside the classroom.
Anyone interested in contributing to this ongoing community effort can visit the Discovery Shoppe or reach out for more information on how to support local initiatives.
In addition to donations, The Discovery Shoppe League invites community members to submit snapshots of local events for publication. These can include service projects, guest speakers at club meetings, or awards being presented. Photos should be high-resolution JPGs with a brief explanation of the content, including the names of individuals in the image, the event details, and its significance. Submissions can be sent to [email protected], with a reminder that non-digital entries are not accepted.
This initiative not only boosts local charities but also fosters a spirit of collaboration and support among residents. The Discovery Shoppe League continues to play a vital role in enriching the lives of those in the Chico area through its dedicated volunteer efforts.
