The stars of the upcoming film Three Wisest Men are proud to highlight how their project breaks away from traditional Hallmark movie conventions. Actors Paul Campbell and Tyler Hynes expressed their excitement about the film’s progressive storytelling, which aims to resonate with modern families. The movie is set to premiere on November 15, 2023, and is the final installment in a trilogy that has redefined the Hallmark cinematic experience.

Campbell, 46, shared insights on the film’s approach during an exclusive interview, stating, “The reason that people keep coming back to these movies — largely as much as they’re fun — is because they do reflect the human experience.” He emphasized the importance of portraying life’s complexities: “We’ve sort of taken the gloss off of it and the polish, and we go, ‘Actually, life is messy and it’s imperfect.’”

The Three Wisest Men trilogy debuted in 2022, featuring Campbell, Hynes, and Andrew Walker as brothers navigating personal challenges while caring for an abandoned infant. The first film quickly became Hallmark’s most-watched movie of the year, leading to the sequel, Three Wiser Men and a Boy, set for release in 2024. The franchise is noted for integrating empathetic and relatable themes, such as the struggles of single parenthood and romantic relationships.

In the new film, Hynes’ character, Taylor, faces a modern dilemma regarding cohabitation with his girlfriend, Caroline, without the traditional engagement or marriage that has historically defined Hallmark couples. Campbell explained, “We really try to humanize these characters. Not everybody waits until they’re married to move in, that’s not accurate.” This shift in narrative reflects a broader societal acceptance of diverse relationship dynamics.

The trio credits their co-writer, Kimberly Sustad, for advocating an authentic portrayal of modern life. Hynes noted, “While we were shooting and Paul was sleeping because he worked such long hours, she was fighting for these characters and helping clarify these points.” Campbell praised Hallmark for being open to evolving storytelling, stating, “They’ve been really good about letting us tell that because it’s necessary to sort of diversify in the way that we tell stories.”

Both actors acknowledged that not every viewer might embrace the new themes, but they believe the move is essential for inclusivity. Campbell remarked on the collaborative spirit of the cast, crediting their collective effort as vital to the film’s success. Hynes, in turn, lauded Campbell’s role in shaping the project, exclaiming, “He is the MVP of these movies. Without a doubt, he is the centerpiece of it all.”

The dynamic between the cast members has fostered an open environment on set, allowing for real-time adjustments to the storytelling process. Hynes elaborated on the creative synergy, stating, “It’s that very specific alchemy which turns out this final product.”

As Three Wisest Men prepares for its premiere, it stands as a testament to Hallmark’s evolving narrative style and commitment to reflecting the diverse realities of contemporary families. The film not only entertains but also invites audiences to engage with stories that mirror their own experiences, redefining what holiday films can encompass.
