Miley Cyrus Opens Up About Engagement and Unique Paper Phobia
Miley Cyrus recently discussed her engagement and an unusual phobia during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on December 4, 2023. This marked her first talk show visit since announcing her engagement to musician Maxx Morando. Cyrus humorously noted that Morando had secured her engagement ring as a “Black Friday deal,” hinting at a savvy financial choice.
During the lively exchange, Kimmel jokingly pointed out that if Morando had waited a few weeks, he could have avoided the pressure of finding a Christmas gift. Cyrus laughed, confirming the ring’s bargain status, “It wasn’t, but he was smart that way. It might have been. I’m not sure.”
As the conversation shifted to the holiday season, Cyrus revealed a surprising aversion to traditional Christmas wrapping. She described herself as a “bit of a Grinch” due to her discomfort with paper. Pointing at the paper on Kimmel’s desk, she remarked, “Like, looking at that makes me want to vomit.”
Cyrus elaborated on her phobia, explaining, “The real problem is people have dry hands and they touch paper, and then it’s Christmas and it’s cold, and everyone’s hands are dry and they’re all touching paper.” This aversion extends to receiving written correspondence; she admitted, “When someone sends me a lovely letter, I don’t even open it.”
Kimmel playfully questioned whether this phobia would affect her ability to sign her wedding certificate, which is also printed on paper. In response, Cyrus shared her preference for smoother surfaces, stating, “This is the thing: waxed paper, like anything that’s got a smooth surface, that’s better.” She recalled that her previous marriage involved a waxed paper certificate, suggesting a manageable solution to her concerns.
Cyrus candidly discussed the impact of her phobia on her daily life, indicating, “It’s getting worse, so there does need to be some sort of intervention.” She mentioned her interest in exploring therapies such as EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and even considering hypnosis to address her unusual fear.
As the segment concluded, Cyrus’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, also weighed in on the engagement news, adding a personal touch to the festive conversation. This lighthearted discussion not only showcased Cyrus’s personality but also highlighted her unique perspective on the holiday season.
