UPDATE: The No. 4 Texas Longhorns delivered a commanding performance, defeating Texas Southern 111-45 on November 5, 2023, extending their winning streak to 28 consecutive home games. Madison Booker, Aaliyah Crump, and Teya Sidberry each scored 18 points, showcasing Texas’ dominance.

This decisive victory is critical for the Longhorns as they prepare for tougher matchups, including a showdown against No. 3 UCLA during the upcoming Players Era tournament in Las Vegas. Texas (4-0) capitalized on 33 turnovers from Texas Southern, turning them into a staggering 50 points.

In just 15 minutes on the court, Sidberry was perfect from the field, hitting all six of her attempts. Crump, a promising freshman, achieved her season-best with 18 points, while Kyla Oldacre contributed 11 points and 9 rebounds. Daeja Holmes led Texas Southern (2-1) with 15 points, but faced challenges as Taliyah Logwood, averaging 15 points in prior games, fouled out in just 11 minutes.

Texas Southern struggled to cope with Texas’ full-court defense, shooting only 33% from the field and committing 21 turnovers by halftime. The Longhorns capitalized, scoring 30 points off these mistakes, leading 60-25 at the break. Texas dominated the paint, scoring 62 points there and adding 23 fast-break points.

“We need to focus on our free throws,”

said Longhorns coach Vic Schaefer, pointing out their 11-24 performance in free-throw shooting. This could pose a risk as they advance to face higher-ranked opponents next week.

As the Longhorns gear up for a challenging schedule, Texas Southern will host Arlington Baptist on Thursday, while Texas will face James Madison at home on Wednesday. Fans are eager to see how both teams will respond after this intense matchup.

Stay tuned for updates as the Texas Longhorns continue their quest for success this season.
