15-Year-Old Bentley Lane Harvests Massive 233-Pound Buck
URGENT UPDATE: A remarkable hunting achievement occurred on Saturday morning when 15-year-old Bentley Lane from Hartland bagged a stunning 233-pound, 8-point buck on his family’s property. This impressive feat took place just after sunrise, marking a significant moment in Lane’s hunting journey.
Hunting alongside his father, Ray Lane, Bentley expertly used a Browning A-Bolt .30-06 rifle, a cherished family heirloom that once belonged to his grandfather, Lewis Elliot. As they scanned the field, a deer emerged on the southeast side, prompting a swift response from the young hunter. Bentley utilized two grunt calls to attract the buck, demonstrating skill and composure as he fired two shots—one as the deer approached and another as it made its way toward the edge of the woods.
After a short walk, Bentley and Ray discovered the buck approximately 25 yards from the field’s edge. “He was patient, calm, and confident,” Ray Lane commented. “That’s what hunting’s all about—family, tradition, and spending time together outdoors.”
Later, Bentley celebrated his victory with family, including his mother, Gretchen Lane, and a family friend. Together, they engaged in their traditional “guess the weight” game, ultimately confirming the buck’s weight at Newport Trading Post. This successful hunt marks Bentley’s eighth deer and one of his largest to date.
The emotional significance of this hunt extends beyond the size of the buck. Using his grandfather’s rifle and sharing the moment with family created lasting memories that Bentley will cherish.
Following his triumphant outing in the field, Bentley returned to his school, where he played on Nokomis’ starting front line, contributing to a victory over Medomak Valley.
This story of perseverance, family bonding, and tradition resonates with many, making Bentley Lane’s achievement a memorable and inspiring tale for the hunting community and beyond. As hunting season continues, enthusiasts are reminded of the deep connections formed between generations in the great outdoors.
