Two Dead, Multiple Injured in Halloween Party Shootings in N.C.
URGENT UPDATE: A tragic shooting at a Halloween party in Maxton, North Carolina has left two people dead and several others critically injured. The incident occurred early Saturday morning, around 1:15 a.m., during a gathering that attracted over 300 attendees, including individuals as young as pre-teens up to those in their 50s.
According to Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins, the shooting involved a confrontation between two groups at the outdoor event, resulting in gunfire that struck 13 people. Among the deceased is a 16-year-old boy and a 47-year-old man, whose identities have not yet been disclosed. One of the injured individuals was airlifted for urgent medical treatment, while others are receiving care at local hospitals.
Sheriff Wilkins confirmed that multiple suspects are being sought, with several persons of interest identified in connection with the shooting. As of Saturday afternoon, no arrests had been made. “There’s a lot of interviews taking place,” Wilkins told WBTW-TV. “Apparently, there was a confrontation between a couple of groups of people, and then gunfire started.”
Witnesses reported chaos as more than 150 partygoers fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. The sheriff’s office was unaware of the party until the gunfire erupted, as the number of attendees did not exceed the local threshold requiring a permit, which would have mandated security presence.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident or who attended the party to contact sheriff’s investigators immediately. The community is in shock as families cope with the aftermath of this devastating event, highlighting the urgent need for safety measures at large gatherings.
