Pressure Increases for Disarmament and Expulsion of Hamas
Pressure is mounting on Hamas to disarm and leave Gaza following the approval of President Donald Trump‘s peace plan by the United Nations Security Council. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on regional governments to collaborate with Israel in efforts to remove the militant group from power in the territory.
On November 18, 2025, Netanyahu’s office announced via social media that it is time to “end Hamas’ rule” over Gaza, emphasizing Israel’s support for the recent UN vote. “In cooperation with the United States and other countries signed on President Trump’s plan, we expect to receive all of the deceased hostages with no delay,” the statement said, adding a commitment to disarm and demilitarize Gaza.
Regional Support and Calls for Action
The Israeli government is urging neighboring nations to normalize relations with Israel and partake in efforts to expel Hamas and its supporters from the region. Netanyahu’s office reiterated Israel’s commitment to peace and prosperity, inviting all countries in the area to join in this initiative.
The Arab League, comprising 22 member states, previously called for Hamas to disarm in a joint resolution passed in July. This resolution was supported by influential mediators such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, who have historically played pivotal roles in negotiations between Hamas and Western nations.
While a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas remains fragile, minor skirmishes have continued to erupt, suggesting that while the overall agreement holds, tensions are still prevalent. The situation remains complex, with both sides navigating the delicate landscape of regional politics.
Trump’s Proposal and Future Governance of Gaza
President Trump’s peace proposal includes the establishment of an “International Stabilization Force” (ISF) designed to govern Gaza, replacing Hamas leadership. This force is expected to be led by “Palestinian technocrats” and will consist of military personnel from various Arab countries.
The governance of the ISF would be overseen by a “Board of Peace,” which would include Trump and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair. White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly stated that the US is committed to a demilitarized and prosperous Gaza, supported by extensive regional cooperation.
As the international community observes these developments, the future of Gaza remains uncertain. The dynamics between Israel, Hamas, and neighboring countries will play a critical role in determining the region’s stability and the broader implications of Trump’s peace plan.
