URGENT: Bus Rollovers in Missouri, 10 Students Injured on FFA Trip
UPDATE: A tour bus carrying nearly 50 high school students to the National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Convention has rolled over in Laclede County, Missouri, resulting in 10 students requiring medical attention. The incident occurred on October 25, 2023, as the bus navigated Highway A near Phillipsburg, approximately 40 miles outside of Springfield.
According to reports from the Missouri Highway Patrol, the bus, transporting students from Bolivar, Fair Play, and Dadeville schools, lost control on a slippery curve due to heavy rain and ended up on its side.
“The students were on their way to Indianapolis for the FFA Convention when this unfortunate incident occurred,”
said Corporal Ralicia Tyler of the highway patrol.
Of the 10 students transported for medical care, injuries were reported as minor, according to officials. The remaining students were swiftly relocated to nearby Conway High School for shelter and to reunite with families.
Both the Bolivar Schools and Fair Play School District have announced that students will be returned home from Conway following this alarming event. The National FFA Convention, which began on the same day, has drawn thousands of participants, making this incident all the more significant.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the rollover, and further updates are expected to follow. Students and families affected by this accident are urged to stay in close communication as recovery efforts proceed.
This developing story highlights the urgent need for safety measures during travel, particularly in adverse weather conditions. Stay tuned as we continue to monitor the situation and gather more information.
