BREAKING: A shocking DUI crash unfolded on October 26, 2023, in San Jose, leaving four people, including a child, injured. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident occurred around 1:46 p.m. on Interstate 280.
The driver of a Chevy pickup lost control while navigating the interchange from Highway 17, launching off a grass embankment and crashing into oncoming traffic on I-280 south. Dramatic video footage shared by @sanjoseactivities_ on Instagram reveals the truck soaring through the air before slamming into the freeway’s center divider.
A Honda, carrying a man, woman, and child, collided with the airborne pickup, intensifying the terrifying scene. The crash scattered debris across both directions of traffic, but fortunately, no other vehicles were directly involved.
The driver of the pickup, a 40-year-old man from San Jose, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The woman in the Honda suffered minor injuries, while the child and the remaining occupants were unharmed. CHP officials confirmed that the pickup driver was under the influence at the time of the crash and has since been arrested for DUI.
“This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving,” said a CHP spokesperson. “We urge everyone to prioritize safety and never drive under the influence.”
The crash has raised serious concerns about road safety in the area, sparking discussions on social media about the need for stricter DUI enforcement. Authorities are investigating the broader implications of this incident, especially considering the potential for more severe consequences.
As the investigation continues, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspected impaired drivers. Updates on the situation are expected as the CHP gathers more evidence and assesses the aftermath of this harrowing crash.
