UPDATE: A suspected arsonist has been arrested following a dramatic apartment fire in Redwood City early Saturday morning. Firefighters rushed to the scene on the 1300 block of Marshall Street at 7:35 a.m., where they found the building engulfed in flames.

The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Eliaser Hernandez-Valadez, returned to the apartment complex later that evening, leading to his swift arrest by authorities. According to the Redwood City Police Department, investigators determined the fire may have been intentionally set.

All residents were successfully evacuated, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the fire caused significant damage to three apartment units, displacing three individuals. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to those affected.

Hernandez-Valadez now faces serious charges, including arson to an inhabited dwelling, reckless burning, and a probation violation. He has been booked into the San Mateo County Jail, as authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
