URGENT UPDATE: North Texas faces an elevated fire threat this Veterans Day as strong winds whip through the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that gusts will reach between 30 to 45 miles per hour today, combined with very low humidity, creating dangerous conditions for outdoor burning.

As residents wake up this morning, temperatures are unusually cold for November, with a low of 41 degrees expected at 7 a.m., feeling more like 33 degrees due to wind chill. However, temperatures are forecasted to climb to a high of 69 degrees as the day progresses, offering a brief respite from the chill.

Officials urge the public to refrain from any outdoor burning activities to mitigate the risk of wildfires. The NWS noted that gusts exceeded 30 miles per hour over the weekend as a cold front moved in, intensifying the fire threat.

In addition, the forecast indicates a bright and sunny day ahead, with winds blowing from the south at 15-25 mph, accompanied by higher gusts. As the week unfolds, temperatures will rise, with a high of 77 degrees expected on Wednesday and even reaching 81 degrees by Thursday.

Residents in areas like Denton and Waco experienced significantly colder temperatures over the weekend, dipping into the 20s. DFW International Airport recorded a low of 36 degrees, avoiding freezing conditions but still feeling the impact of the colder air.

Looking ahead, the weekend forecast includes a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, with temperatures cooling slightly to a high of 78 degrees. Winds remain steady at 10-15 mph throughout the week.

As North Texas prepares for warmer weather, officials emphasize the importance of safety measures to prevent fires. Stay tuned for updates as conditions develop.
