UPDATE: A Southern California pastor has been sentenced to 45 years to life in prison for the sexual assault of three young girls, shocking a community that trusted him as a leader. Carlos Ramirez Valdez, 61, was convicted of the heinous crimes earlier this year, with the Orange County District Attorney’s office announcing the sentencing on October 24, 2025.

Valdez’s crimes took place between 2012 and 2019 while he served as a pastor at Iglesia De Dios Ebenezer Church in Santa Ana. Prosecutors revealed that Valdez exploited his position of trust, luring victims into secluded areas of the church or into his vehicle parked nearby. One victim, who was only 4 years old at the time, endured sexual assault over a terrifying seven-year span.

The case gained momentum in January 2020 when two additional victims came forward, detailing their experiences of abuse. One victim, now an adult, disclosed to Garden Grove police that Valdez molested her after giving her rides home from church when she was just 9 years old. Another victim reported repeated assaults in a backyard shed when she was aged 7 to 8 years.

In August 2025, Valdez was convicted of 11 felony counts of lewd acts with a minor under 14, along with three counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration of a child under 10. The verdict sent shockwaves through the community and sparked discussions about child safety in places of worship.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer condemned the actions, stating, “Churches should be safe sanctuaries, not hunting grounds for child molesters.” He emphasized that the sexual exploitation of children will not be tolerated and vowed to pursue justice for victims relentlessly.

This urgent development serves as a grim reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by children and the critical need for vigilance in protecting them. The sentencing marks a significant moment in the fight against child exploitation and highlights the importance of community awareness and intervention.

As investigations continue and support networks for survivors remain crucial, the community is urged to remain alert. The implications of this case extend beyond the courtroom, impacting families and communities who must now grapple with the reality of such betrayal by a trusted figure.

Stay tuned as we follow this developing story and monitor the ongoing discussions surrounding child safety measures in religious institutions.
