“Predator: Badlands” Hits Theaters Friday, Reimagines Iconic Monster
UPDATE: The highly anticipated film “Predator: Badlands” is set to open in theaters this Friday, November 7, 2023, flipping the script on the iconic franchise. For the first time, audiences will root for the monster itself, as the story follows a predator named Dek, who is ostracized by his clan and embarks on a quest to hunt an un-killable creature on a perilous planet.
In an exclusive interview with On The Red Carpet, Elle Fanning, who portrays two humanoid robots, revealed, “Every plant, every tree is trying to kill you” in this treacherous setting. She plays Thia, who aids Dek, and Tessa, a more dangerous character that offers a thrilling twist. Fanning expressed her excitement about Tessa’s role, stating, “To get to play a little evil was very fun, honestly… But Thia, gosh, she’s so optimistic and has this like, comedic side to her.”
Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, who takes on the role of Dek, emphasized the film’s unique perspective on predators, saying, “We have never seen a predator be an underdog, right? Or the vulnerable kind of character.” He anticipates that this portrayal will change how audiences view both the new film and the franchise’s history.
Director Dan Trachtenberg agrees, highlighting a significant shift in storytelling. “We’ve been going to theaters forever now and have fallen in love with the creatures that are the sidekicks, or the monstrous villains, and they’ve never really been the hero,” he explained. “It’s a huge crazy swing that is filled with action and suspense, but also a heaping dose of heart as well.”
With this groundbreaking narrative, “Predator: Badlands” is poised to capture the attention of fans and newcomers alike. The film promises a fresh take on the beloved franchise, blending action with emotional depth.
As the release date approaches, moviegoers are buzzing about the potential for a new perspective on the predator mythos. This exciting development in the “Predator” series is not just about a monster; it’s about reimagining what it means to be a hero in a world filled with peril.
Stay tuned for more updates and be among the first to witness the evolution of the predator narrative this weekend!
