Police Identify Baby Boy Found Dead in 1981; Public’s Help Needed
URGENT UPDATE: The San Bruno Police Department has officially identified a newborn boy found dead in 1981 at Buckeye Park, marking a significant breakthrough in this cold case. Authorities are now urgently seeking the public’s assistance as they continue their investigation into this tragic event.
On November 11, 1981, at approximately 4 p.m., the lifeless body of the baby was discovered inside a garbage can. Police confirmed that the infant had succumbed to strangulation and severe head injuries, having likely been placed in the garbage receptacle shortly after 11 a.m. that day.
This identification was made possible through advanced forensic genealogy techniques, which the San Bruno Police Department described as a “newly available investigative technology.” They collaborated with the Texas Department of Public Safety, forensic law enforcement partners, and specialized labs to uncover the baby’s family ties.
The police have yet to release the names of the infant’s parents, but they emphasized the significance of this development. “This identification represents a major step forward in the case and has renewed efforts to bring this case to justice,” they noted in a statement shared on social media.
In the initial investigation, authorities identified that the newborn had Type O-positive blood and uncovered reddish-brown human hair along with black dog hair found on the sock used in the tragic crime. Despite extensive investigative efforts back in 1981, the identity of the child and the responsible party remained unknown for over four decades.
Now, the San Bruno Police Department is calling on anyone with relevant information about the case to step forward. Citizens can contact the department at 650-616-7100 or via email at [email protected].
The emotional weight of this case has not diminished over the years, and many in the community are eager to see justice served for this innocent life lost too soon. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as investigators work to piece together the events surrounding this child’s heartbreaking fate.
