Hugh Jackman Wows Fans at ‘Song Sung Blue’ Premiere in Waukesha
UPDATE: Over 200 fans welcomed Hugh Jackman and director Craig Brewer to Waukesha on July 18, 2023, during the premiere of “Song Sung Blue” at Marcus Majestic Cinema. The atmosphere was electric as attendees enjoyed live music and themed treats, making the night unforgettable.
The special screening kicked off with a lively reception featuring Kenosha musician Kevin Kamin, who serenaded the crowd with Neil Diamond classics. Guests were treated to complimentary Kopp’s “Song Sung Blueberry” frozen custard, adding a sweet touch to the nostalgic evening. “I’ve been playing it all my life, so I’m super excited to do this for the opening of the show,” Kamin expressed.
The film, which tells the heartfelt story of a Milwaukee couple who performed Neil Diamond tribute music, resonated with many attendees. Jamie Hardt from Oconomowoc shared her excitement, saying, “This is my childhood coming to life right here.” The screening was a walk down memory lane for many, blending music, emotion, and community.
Mother-daughter duo Elizabeth Bagley and Camille Spella, who traveled from Sussex and Brookfield, respectively, echoed this sentiment. “We are enjoying the music of our lives. We grew up with the music,” Bagley remarked, capturing the essence of the evening.
At 8 p.m., Greg Marcus, CEO of Marcus Corporation, introduced Jackman and Brewer to the audience. “It’s awesome having him here, supporting the film. It’s an important film. It’s about Milwaukee,” Marcus stated. Jackman’s presence brought Hollywood glamour to the event, further elevating the community feel.
In his remarks, Jackman praised Milwaukee, humorously highlighting the local custard. “Oh, that Kopp’s custard,” he laughed, adding, “You guys are incredible. The people of Milwaukee are incredible, and in many ways this story is a celebration of this place and the people that populate this place.”
