Blue Jays’ Springer Optimistic for Game 6 After Knee Injury
UPDATE: The Toronto Blue Jays are holding onto hope as manager John Schneider confirms that leadoff hitter George Springer is optimistic about playing in Game 6 of the AL Championship Series against the Seattle Mariners on October 15, 2023. After sustaining a knee injury from a 95.6 mph pitch during Friday’s 6-2 loss, Springer’s status remains uncertain but promising.
Schneider stated, “Feeling a lot better than he did yesterday,” indicating that treatment has positively impacted Springer’s recovery. The 36-year-old, a four-time All-Star, is currently batting .256 this postseason, with three home runs and five doubles. His playoff experience is notable, with 22 career playoff homers, tying him for fourth-most alongside Bernie Williams.
During Game 5, Springer fell to the ground after being struck but managed to walk off the field, replaced by pinch-runner Joey Loperfido. As the Blue Jays face elimination, every moment counts, and Schneider emphasized that Springer will test his knee during a team workout today. “Just make sure that it’s not bothering him swinging and not bothering him running,” Schneider added. “But he’s a tough dude, so I’m hopeful and optimistic that he’ll be good to go.”
In addition to Springer’s situation, Bo Bichette, who has been sidelined since a collision with Yankees catcher Austin Wells, is making progress but has yet to run the bases. Schneider confirmed that Bichette is improving with his swing and may return to base running soon.
With the Mariners leading the best-of-seven series 3-2, the stakes have never been higher for the Blue Jays. Fans are eagerly awaiting news on Springer’s condition, as his presence could be pivotal in this crucial matchup. The team will look to build on the momentum of Springer’s recovery and hope to force a decisive Game 7.
As the clock ticks down to Game 6, all eyes will be on the Blue Jays as they aim to keep their championship dreams alive. Stay tuned for further updates as the situation develops.
