Bay FC Ends Season with 1-0 Loss, Coach Montoya Steps Down
UPDATE: In a dramatic conclusion to a challenging season, Bay FC suffered a 1-0 loss against Racing Louisville on Sunday, marking their 14th defeat of the season. The match, held at Racing Louisville’s home ground, saw Ella Hase score the decisive goal just three minutes into the second half, sealing Bay FC’s fate in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).
The loss caps a tumultuous year for Bay FC, which was marred by internal strife, including a coaching investigation and the dismissal of key personnel. Coach Albertin Montoya confirmed post-match that this was his final game in charge after announcing his resignation earlier this month.
“We didn’t end the way we would’ve liked to, but I also have to say thank you to the players and to Bay FC,” Montoya stated. “Regardless of the score this entire season, they never stopped competing and playing for each other.” His departure follows a season filled with challenges, including claims of a “toxic” workplace environment.
Bay FC’s record stands at 4 wins, 8 draws, and 14 losses, placing them a disappointing 13th out of 14 teams in the league standings. This is a stark decline from their inaugural season in 2024, where they finished with an 11-14-1 record.
Defender Caprice Dydasco made history during the match by becoming the first player in Bay FC history to achieve “iron woman” status, playing every minute of the 2025 regular season. Dydasco joins an elite group of only 40 players to have reached this milestone in the NWSL.
The situation at Bay FC is poised for further change as Brady Stewart, the team president, also announced her resignation last month. Stewart played a pivotal role in organizing the club’s standout event this season, which saw over 35,000 fans attend a match at Oracle Park. Both Stewart and Montoya have been foundational figures since the club’s inception.
As Bay FC looks ahead to its third season, significant restructuring is expected. The club aims to rebuild and re-establish itself in the league, focusing on creating a more positive environment for players and staff.
The future of Bay FC remains uncertain, but the resilience shown by the players throughout this challenging season offers a glimmer of hope for fans and supporters. Stay tuned for more updates as the club responds to these developments and prepares for the upcoming season.
