Tricia Marcello Remembered for Her Humor and Generosity
Tricia Marcello, a beloved figure known for her sharp wit and generous spirit, passed away on October 20, 2023, at the age of 79 in Manhattan Beach, California. Born Tricia Taw on September 13, 1946, in Los Angeles, she grew up in Inglewood and Culver City, cherishing summers spent with her extended family in Ely, Nevada.
Marcello began her career as a ticket agent for American Airlines at Los Angeles International Airport, where she developed a keen ability to read people and solve complex problems. Her career in the entertainment industry included roles in television production, working on various projects from movies of the week to live shows like Circus of the Stars. Her love for the creative arts was evident in her passion for music and literature, often seen with multiple books in hand.
Family Life and Community Engagement
Tricia met her husband, John Marcello, through mutual friends, and they married in 1984. Over their 41 years together, they built a life in Manhattan Beach, where they welcomed their daughter, Molly. This new chapter brought many parenting experiences that Tricia embraced with enthusiasm.
Active in local education, Marcello served as PTA president and volunteered with community organizations such as Sandpipers. She was known for her hospitality, creating a warm environment for her large, extended family and friends who regularly visited. A friend affectionately referred to her as the “innkeeper of the Marcello B&B,” as she often hosted gatherings filled with homemade meals and laughter.
Facing Challenges with Grace
In the last decade, Tricia faced significant health challenges, undergoing multiple surgeries related to rheumatoid arthritis and genetic heart issues. Despite these hardships, she approached her situation with remarkable resilience, drawing strength from her faith and trust in her medical team. Her character shone through during difficult times, as she often lightened the mood with her insightful and humorous remarks.
Marcello had a unique sense of style that blended bohemian and vintage steampunk elements, reflecting her vibrant personality. Her friends and family appreciated her quick wit and love for dry humor, attributes that endeared her to many.
“All the limoncello in the world could never erase the pain of losing her. But, as she would say, it certainly helps,” her family shared.
A funeral mass will be held at American Martyrs Catholic Church on November 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a reception at O’Donnell Hall. Tricia Marcello leaves behind a legacy of love, humor, and community spirit that will be remembered by all who knew her.
